Artisan bread
yields 2 loaves
480ml - 2 cups water (at room temperature)
17g - 0.6 oz active yeast
1 tsp olive oil
1.5 tsp salt
2 tsp sugar
600g - 5 cups flour
In a large bowl, place the water and yeast. Let it dissolve.
Add the sugar, salt and olive oil to the water mixture.
Add the flour and knead until the dough comes together and no longer sticks to the edges of the bowl.
Divide the dough into two equal pieces and form each piece into a ball.
Place the dough balls 12.5 cm - 5 inches apart on a baking sheet and lightly coat with flour.
Score each loaf, cover with a clean tea towel and proof for 40 to 60 minutes or until they have doubled in size.
Once ready, preheat your oven to 240°C - 475°F - Gas Mark 9
Place your tray in the middle rack of your oven and bake for about 15 to 20 minutes or until the top of the loaves turn golden brown.
